During the association’s virtual Winter Business Meetings on Wednesday, Illinois Senate Assistant Republican Leader Jason Barickman of Bloomington encouraged REALTORS® to develop relationships with their lawmakers now so they could offer to explain complicated real estate matters when they arise in the General Assembly this spring.

Barickman, Republican floor leader and caucus chair, said that the Republican agenda could offer several positive measures for REALTORS® such as property tax reductions and economic growth to keep residents and attract more people from other states. During the “Advocacy Everywhere” session with Illinois REALTORS® Immediate Past President Ed Neaves, Barickman welcomed Illinois REALTORS®’ plans to pass legislation that improves the affordability and availability of housing throughout the state.  He also opposes rent control and other regulations that would adversely affect the real estate industry.

A former REALTOR®, Barickman is a principal with the law office of Meyer Capel, PC in Bloomington, and specializes in real estate and business law. He assumed his current role as senator in 2013, he served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013.
