The baby boomer generation continues to shape U.S. cultural trends, this time in the “graying” of the nation.
By the year 2050, the U.S. senior population (those 65 and older) is expected to reach 83.7 million, nearly double its size in 2012, according to new reports from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Most of the growth in that age group is expected to come from aging baby boomers. Click here for more information on the Census reports and the impact a growing senior population will have on communities and services.
“Changes in the age structure of the U.S. population will have implications for health care services and providers, national and local policymakers, and businesses seeking to anticipate the influence that this population may have on their services, family structure and the American landscape,” said Jennifer Ortman, chief of the Census Bureau’s Population Projections Branch in a news release.
