U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, holds up a REALTOR® T shirt he got during a Capitol Hill visit on May 11, 2016. Illinois REALTORS® plan to visit all of the state’s Congressional delegation this week.

Illinois REALTORS® Federal Political Coordinators and their teams will fan out across Capitol Hill over the next three days to meet with lawmakers.

The visits are part of the association’s annual participation in the NAR Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in Washington, D.C.

The Federal Political Coordinators are assigned to each of the state’s congressional representatives and senators. They serve a valuable role in making sure that the REALTOR® stand on issues communicated.

Tax reform proposals could undermine long-held real estate tax code provisions such as the Mortgage Interest Deduction and the 1031 Like-Kind Exchange. As a result, REALTORS® this year will be working to make sure every member of Congress clearly hears how protecting these provisions is good for business and consumers.

To prepare for the Hill visits, FPCs are meeting this afternoon at the Washington Hilton to get a final briefing.
