IAR’s ombudsman program has now handled 139 cases since it’s inception and more than 70 percent of cases handled through the process have been resolved.
The program, established late last year, allows consumers with disputes against REALTORS® and REALTORS® with disputes with other REALTORS® to have the issues heard by a trained third-party.
The results of the program were reported by IAR Professional Standards Committee Chair Chris Read at the association’s business meetings in Itasca, Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014.
Under consideration for IAR’s Board of Directors at their upcoming Sept. 4 meeting in Chicago is the publication of information about ethics violations around the state as well as a new ethics citation program. The policies would work toward a goal of enhancing professionalism in the industry.
IAR Treasurer Mike Drews spoke briefly to the group about his new role on the National Association of REALTORS Code of Ethics Expediated Ethics Procedures Work Group.
