Flood insurance, infrastructure needs among topics discussed
Illinois REALTORS® in Washington, D.C., finished up visits with the state’s senators and representatives on Thursday, making sure the policymakers understood where the association and its members stood on a variety of real estate policy issues.
The visits began on Tuesday with a session with Sens. Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, and ended on Thursday morning with a hallway meeting with Rep. Cheri Bustos.
The meetings were held in a variety of venues. In most, REALTORS® packed offices in gatherings led by the association’s Federal Political Coordinators.
Rep. Raja Krisnamoorthi met with REALTORS® Thursday morning at a special breakfast in the Congressional Dining Room in the U.S. Capitol. And, Rep. Brad Schneider held a meeting in a antechamber of a committee meeting room on Wednesday. Others, such as Jesus “Chuy” Garcia and Bustos met with REALTORS® in hallways between committee meetings.
In each meeting, REALTORS® made sure lawmakers knew they wanted a lengthier extension for the National Flood Insurance Program, and they asked what could be done to address infrastructure needs which fuel the economy.
