Glazer Thanksgiving food distribution

Skokie REALTOR® Marilyn Glazer has been multitasking for many years, juggling her real estate career with local, state and national REALTOR® association work, public service in several elected capacities and volunteer work in her community.

She gives back to community as the treasurer of the Niles Township Food Pantry Foundation. She’s held that position since the foundation was formed in 2008.

At that time, while serving on the Niles Township Board of Trustees, Glazer says the township was not receiving enough tax money to purchase adequate food for the 3,600 people it served monthly. “We needed to find a way to raise funds from corporations, individuals and other government bodies. To that end, we established a 501c3 corporation, the Niles Township Food Pantry Foundation.

“We have been successful in raising funds to purchase more and better food,” she says. “We often receive thank-you notes from food pantry clients telling us how much our help means to them and to their families. Some include photos of how the food was cooked and show how appreciative their families were of the meals. At Christmas, thanks to donations from civic organizations and individuals in the community, we are able to provide toys to children who might not have any toys. Working with volunteers, we are able to make difference in the community.”

Niles Township covers several communities in north suburban Cook County, including Lincolnwood, Golf, Glenview, Niles, Morton Grove and her hometown of Skokie. She’s been on the board since 2005 and supervisor since 2014.

Prior to her election in Niles Township, Glazer served as a commissioner on the Skokie Zoning Board of Appeals, director of the Skokie Caucus Party and Chairman of Oakton College’s Real Estate Advisory Committee.
