Governor J.B. Pritzker recently released a copy of the latest Executive Order (EO) to be filed April 30, 2020, becoming effective May 1, 2020, and extending through the period of the declared disaster (end of May 2020). Most of the provisions of the prior EOs remain with alterations or changes, some of which are set forth below:
- Face masks will be required in places where social distancing measures can’t be observed and indoors such as in stores.
- Employers must provide face masks to their employees, and must reduce the number of employees in buildings where social distancing is unworkable.
- Essential stores must provide directional signage and announcements regarding social distancing.
- Non-essential retail businesses may conduct limited operations for phone and online orders to be delivered or picked up outside the store.
- Those businesses that continue to operate remotely are encouraged to do so and for those who have employees in the office, the employer must post specific guidance that will be attached to the final EO.
- Essential businesses may remain open (this replaces language encouraging them to do so).
- Some state parks and golf courses will be allowed to reopen. Golf courses may operate under specific restrictions.
- Schools must establish a procedure for picking up supplies and/or exiting dormitories that comply with social distancing requirements.
- Pet groomers are now allowed to operate subject to safety measures.
- Businesses must follow guidance from these EOs, the Office of the Governor, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and state and local law enforcement regarding essential operations.
