Answer IAR’s Call for Action and send a message to the 12-member legislative panel of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) that Illinois REALTORS® oppose a statewide fire sprinkler mandate in all newly constructed homes. IAR research has shown that sprinkler system mandates drive up the cost of homeownership and are unpopular with owners who would prefer to make their own decision on the issue.
There are ALSO onerous retrofit mandates imposed by these rules for high rise residential buildings, even those buildings that already meet locally approved stringent safety requirements. This mandate will result in significant new assessments on owners and residents.
