Mokena-area REALTOR® Doug Carpenter was honored at a luncheon Tuesday during the Illinois REALTORS® Fall Business Meetings in Naperville. Also honored at the luncheon was outgoing 2021 President Sue Miller.

Carpenter, with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group in Mokena, was named the 2020 Illinois REALTOR® of the Year. The award honors individuals whose dedication to excellence has profoundly enhanced the industry.

In a real estate career that has spanned 35-plus years, Carpenter, who holds a managing broker license, has been involved in all levels of the REALTOR® organization. In 2017, he led the statewide association as president of Illinois REALTORS®.

On the national level, Carpenter has been involved with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) as a long-time member of the NAR Board of Directors and has served on numerous committees. He is among an elite group of REALTOR® association members nationwide whose monetary contributions have earned them a spot on the RPAC Hall of Fame in NAR’s Washington, D.C., offices. In 2002, he was the first REALTOR® from Illinois to earn such an honor.

He has served 20 terms on the Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors and has contributed his talents to a variety of the association’s committees, working groups and task forces in his career. In 2009, Carpenter was honored with the Illinois REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award. REALTOR® education has always been a priority for Carpenter. He served as president of the Real Estate Educational Foundation (REEF), a not-for-profit organization established to aid and promote the work of real estate education throughout Illinois, in 2009 and 2010.

Carpenter twice served as president of his local association and was the CEO of Three Rivers Association of REALTORS®. He is currently a member of the Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS® and has been awarded the local association’s Key Award honoring his commitment to the industry.
