Illinois REALTORS® from Chicago and suburban Cook County testified before the Cook County Zoning and Buildings Committee Monday.
The REALTORS® said that newly proposed rental housing regulations will drive up rents for tenants and make smaller landlords vulnerable to lawsuits that could ruin their businesses. The negative impacts of the proposed ordinance could be immediate and have long-term effects.
Multiple REALTOR® members gave the committee real-life examples of how the Cook County Residential Tenant Landlord Ordinance (RTLO) could hurt Cook County’s housing market. Illinois REALTORS® Local Government Affairs Director Adriann Murawski and Chicago Association of REALTORS® Director of Government Affairs Kristopher Anderson also gave statements.
Cook County REALTORS® can make their voices heard by responding to the Illinois REALTORS® Call For Action.
Non-REALTORS® who reside in Cook County, such as landlord clients, can show their support by sending a message to their County Board member. After providing their names and addresses online, they will receive confirmation codes via email to send their messages.
The Zoning and Buildings Committee will decide in December whether to forward the proposal to the full County Board for a vote, make changes or table the idea.
