Illinois Association of REALTORS® Housing Policy Advisor Sharon Gorrell recently attended a housing symposium in Washington, D.C. The conference topics centered on the entire housing ladder, from homelessness to homeownership and implications related to foreclosure specific to military veterans.
Gorrell had the opportunity to share with Capt. W. Scott Gould, Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs, the commitment that Illinois REALTORS® have made to veterans housing through various programming such as Heroes Welcome Home, Helping our Heroes, and Naperville Responds for our Veterans, all organizations started with and through REALTORS® in Illinois.
An issue they also discussed was the rise and impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder on the lives of veterans and their families. Issues like PTSD and increased physical disabilities that returning veterans are tackling will likely be part of the dialogue going forward as REALTORS® continue to work on behalf of our nation’s heroes, both through transactions and their volunteer non-profit work. The Deputy Secretary was thankful to REALTORS® for what we are doing to help house veterans here in Illinois.
