Members of the Illinois REALTORS® 2020 Leadership Development Class met virtually for parts of two days last week and discovered the best ways to interact with news media and make ethical decisions.

The REALTORS® practiced their decision-making skills by devising strategies for handling real-life real estate scenarios and evaluating their plans with fellow classmates and instructor Bruce Aydt. The REALTORS® learned how standards of behavior are part of ethical decision-making.

Attendees also practiced interviews and received numerous tips for succeeding with news media interviews, whether in person, virtual, for print media, for radio or television. For example, they learned:

  • To keep their focus during long interviews with print journalists
  • To restate questions as part of their responses during television interviews and
  • To wear solid colored clothes to prevent needless distractions during videoconference interviews
