U.S. home prices shot up in August with annual gains rising 12.8 percent, the highest since February 2006, according to the latest S&P/Case-Shiller home price index, Bloomberg reports. The index looks at prices in 20 U.S. cities, including Chicago.

The Chicago Tribune reports that while the Chicago area saw year-over-year increases of 8.7 percent in August, the month-to-month gains slowed a bit with a 1.6 percent gain compared to July.
