Good news on the home construction front — housing starts jumped 22.7 percent in November to the highest levels since February 2008, according to the latest Commerce Department data. At the same time, home builder confidence rose four points in December, the National Association of Home Builders reports.

The housing starts data was the latest indication the economy was strengthening, with employment rising solidly in October and November, and retail sales and industrial production exceeding expectations last month.
