For the third consecutive year, Illinois leads the country in terms of green-certified or energy-efficient building space per capita, according to the U.S. Green Building Council, which today released its 2015 Top 10 States for LEED. LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, recognizes sustainable building practices.

States are ranked based on total square feet of LEED-certified space per resident and includes commercial and institutional green building projects, according to the council. Illinois topped the list again with 161 building projects representing 3.43 per square feet of certified space per resident.  Read coverage of the ranking at WLS-TV and the Chicago Tribune.
