Illinois REALTORS®2022 President Ezekiel “Zeke” Morris and CEO Jeff Baker announced the launch of the American Dream of homeownership campaign in a special member forum at Illinois REALTORS® Winter Business Meetings in Bloomington-Normal on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

“It is important that we do everything we can to help ensure that EVERYONE has the opportunity to own a home or commercial property regardless of where they live, their historical socio-economic background or their ethnicity,” Morris told members. Our mission is to fight to make the American Dream a real opportunity for everyone.”

Baker explained how the American Dream initiative underscores Illinois REALTORS®’ commitment to helping clients achieve the their dreams of buying or selling their homes, and the significance of REALTORS®’ role in achieving those dreams. From an advocacy standpoint, it means Illinois REALTORS® is taking action to seek affordability and equity in housing throughout the state.

Baker further outlined Illinois REALTORS® efforts to give everyone the opportunity to achieve the American Dream through:

  • Preserving and creating housing that is affordable for everyone in the state
  • Diversifying the real estate industry
  • Identifying and breaking down barriers such as discriminatory appraisals and
  • Creating the opportunity for our clients to achieve the American Dream of homeownership

“Our members sell the value of homeownership and property ownership and business ownership every day, which means our members are unique in this country – there are not many other industries or callings in America where you can say you are responsible for making the American Dream happen,” Baker said.

Morris agreed, saying, “Now is the right time for us to emphasize the importance of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to achieve this aspect of the American Dream… and that REALTORS® are the key to making homeownership happen.”
