With the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) set to expire on Sept. 30, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) continues to advocate for long-term changes to improve the program.
According to NAR, Congress is scheduled to vote on a federal spending bill Tuesday that includes a one-year reauthorization of the NFIP. Congress must vote by Thursday to fund the federal government through Dec. 11.
NAR seeks stronger mapping and mitigation as part of its long-term advocacy, as well as facilitating a more robust private insurance market.
The NFIP was extended for one year in September 2019.
The National Flood Insurance Program is managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and is delivered to the public by a network of approximately 60 insurance companies and the NFIP Direct. Learn more about FEMA and the NFIP.
