North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS® (NSBAR) collected 336 pounds of dog and cat food, and nearly $1,500 of pet toys, blankets and other items during its second annual holiday food drive for two area animal shelters.
NSBAR members helped more than 150 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens during this holiday season! All donations went to the Heartland Animal Shelter and Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions, two local no-kill animal shelters that house and feed dogs and cats awaiting their forever homes.
- Heartland Animal Shelter houses more than 120 homeless cats, dogs, puppies and kittens at its Northbrook facility. The shelter educates the public on the importance of spaying and neutering pets to prevent pet overpopulation problems.
- Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions in Palatine was started in 2005 because homeless older cats and dogs, who once were longtime companions to families or individuals, were usually passed over in favor of younger animals and euthanized. These pets became homeless because their owners died or could no longer afford to keep them.
The top two offices with donations from Barrington were: Keller Williams Success Realty and RE/MAX of Barrington. The top two North Shore offices with donations were: Baird & Warner, Glenview and Coldwell Banker Residential, Deerfield Highland Park.
