Welter was named to replace John Anthony, who resigned in June and accepted appointment to executive assistant to the director of the Illinois Department of Corrections. Welter began his political career in 2010 as a Grundy County Board Member, later earning the titles of vice chairman and chairman. He serves on the following committees as senator:

  • Agriculture & Conservation;
  • Appropriations-Public Safety;
  • Elementary Secondary Education Charter School Policy;
  • Energy;
  • Judiciary – Criminal;
  • Restorative Justice; and
  • Special Needs Services.

Reick

Born and raised in Kanakee, Reick established his own law practice in 1980, almost exclusively in tax representation and real estate. He and his wife Deb raised three children while living in Woodstock.

Reick ran unsuccessfully for the state representative of the 63rd House District in 2014, losing to an incumbent who is not seeking the position in November.

If either Welter or Reick are on your ballot, make sure you’re registered to vote and cast your ballot for one of these candidates on Nov. 8.
