REALTORS® working from home because of the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak will have opportunities to help employees, colleagues, family members and neighbors as communities adapt changing conditions.
Acts of leadership can be important to all these contacts, according to an Inman Select article, “What coronavirus can teach agents about leadership.” Author Matt Muscat provides several examples of leadership that can be mutually beneficial to leaders and those around them.
- Show employees and team members structure by checking in with them at the beginning and at the end of each day. Regular phone calls or video chats can provide normalcy when everyone works from home, he says.
- Check in with vendors and “transaction partners” to see how the pandemic is affecting their businesses.
“Many great providers are nervous right now and may feel like they’re on an island,” says Muscat. “Calling them with a positive message or compliments on past work is a good way to ensure they also make it through the crisis and are there to work with you in the future.”
In addition, Muscat encourages real estate pros to show leadership with their families. He advises them to find hopeful and positive messages to share with family members and to provide structured family activity time, especially with children.
