With the official results of Tuesday’s primaries in Illinois, Ohio, Florida, Missouri and North Carolina still being tabulated, discussion of the 2016 presidential race became a pertinent topic at the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals’ (NAHREP) Housing Policy & Hispanic Lending Conference in Washington, D.C.

NAHREP President Joe Nery moderated a bi-partisan discussion between Henry Cisneros, former secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Tucker Carlson, a Fox News Channel political correspondent. The goal was to explain what effect the remaining presidential candidates would have on Hispanic homeownership in 2017 and beyond.

This discussion was just a part of today’s agenda, which included sessions about: interest rates and economic outlook; mortgage availability; housing inventory; growing the Hispanic workforce in housing; and the NAHREP presidential installation gala. The featured speaker at the gala will be Rep. Luis V. Guitiérrez of the 4th Congressional District of Illinois.

On Tuesday, current HUD Secretary Julián Castro provided the keynote luncheon address.
