If you have used the ProctorU online exam service to proctor a real estate course exam, you are advised to change your password or deactivate your ProctorU account.

ProctorU was an online proctor for some Illinois REALTORS® pre-license and post-license courses between 2014 and 2018. It was just disclosed that the online exam service ProctorU suffered a data breach in June 2020. The breach contained 444k user records including names, email and physical addresses, phone numbers and passwords stored as encrypted passwords.

Protect yourself from security breaches

When you are notified of a security breach involving a company you have an online account with, immediately change your password or deactivate your account.

  • Monitor data breaches using a site such as Have I Been Pwned. These sites will notify you of any data breaches that may affect you.
  • Use strong, unique passwords for each website. Avoid using the same password for all your online account.
  • Enable two-factor authentication to send unique access codes to your phone or a second email for authentication purposes.
