Illinois REALTORS® local Governmental Affairs Director Neeley Erickson appeared at a DeKalb City Council meeting to make a donation and voice support for a community project along with the HomeTown Association of REALTORS®.
Erickson and leaders from HomeTown secured a $1,000 Community Rebuilding Grant from the National Association of REALTORS® to help pay for some of the expenses of painting a unity mural on the wall adjacent to a pedestrian path that links Northern Illinois University and Prairie Park in DeKalb. Since the check presentation, Erickson has secured $500 more in grant funds for the project.
DeKalb Alderman Scott McAdams accepted the donation on behalf of the city and the business working on the mural, Off the Tracks Gallery. DeKalb City Council members are supportive of the project and are looking forward to future collaboration with REALTORS® on revitalization and beautification efforts in the city. A local artist, Aaron Robertson, will paint a mural that will cover graffiti on the wall.
HomeTown is led by association executive Heather Wiedrich, President Todd Burghardt of Team Advantage Plus Realty in Rochelle, President-elect Bonita Willis of Woodhaven Lakes Realty in Sublette, Treasurer Aaron Schwartz of Weichert REALTORS® Signature Professionals in DeKalb and Immediate Past President Patty Martinez of C21 Affiliated in DeKalb. The association serves 300 members from DeKalb, Ogle, Lee and Whiteside counties.
