Schock was elected to Congress in 2008 and won reelection in 2010 and 2012. He serves on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, subcommittees on Trade and Social Security, as well as the House Administration and the Republican Conference Advisory committees. As Deputy Republican Whip, Schock helps House Republican leadership develop legislative strategy and floor votes.
He faces Democrat Darrel Miller in the November election. The 18th district includes 19 counties and the metropolitan areas of Peoria, Springfield, Jacksonville and Bloomington-Normal.
Schock began his public service career by serving on the Peoria School Board from 2001 to 2005. While only 22 years old, he was named the board’s vice president. He also served as board president before successfully running for the 92nd District of the Illinois House of Representatives. He won elections in (2004 and 2006) and served in the Illinois House from 2005 to 2009.
