Boyd, ARA, ALC, GRI, CGA, was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of Illinois farmland. Mention a plot of land, and Boyd often could tell you what soil was likely to be found there, the price it might sell for and even the sales history. He was a managing broker with Farmers National Co.
A portion of an interview Boyd did for Illinois REALTOR® magazine on conservation easements appears in the January edition of Illinois REALTOR® magazine which was printing at the time of his death.
“Mac Boyd was deeply committed to making the industry better for all,” said Illinois REALTORS® President Doug Carpenter. “His knowledge of the state’s farmland market made him a go-to expert when it came to private property rights issues in that area. His loss is deeply felt by those of us who worked with him and have admired him for many years.”
Boyd served in many REALTOR® leadership roles over the years. He was chair of political fundraising committees in 1993, 2005 and 2010, he served two times on the association’s board of directors and he chaired the Professional Standards Committee.
Boyd, who graduated in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture at the University of Illinois-Champaign, was the 1993 Farm and Land Broker of the Year for the Illinois chapter of the REALTORS® Land Institute, and received the Illinois REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award in 2004.
Boyd was named to the Illinois and National Association of REALTORS® Halls of Fame in 2014, denoting at least $25,000 in support for the REALTORS® Political Action Committee.
In addition to being a managing broker, Boyd was a Continuing Education Instructor and a Certified General Appraiser. He was 2007 president of the Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and 2002 national president of the REALTORS® Land Institute.
