With three days left in 2017, we focus on Chicago-area REALTOR® Vicky Silvano, who was named 2018 NAR Global Real Estate Committee Liaison in June.
Silvano, broker associate for Century 21 SGR in Chicago, began her duties in November as a member of NAR President Elizabeth Mendenhall’s enlarged leadership team. Silvano brings with her a passion for learning and reaching out to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Born and raised in the Philippines, she graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in Economics. She speaks the official national language of the Philippines, Tagalog, which is also known as “Filipino.” In Chicago, she has built relationships with Philippines consular officers at community events, some of whom attended the University of the Philippines.
She served as chair for the Illinois REALTORS® Consulate General Liaison Working Group in 2017 and was part of the Global Working Group, too. In 2016, she joined the Illinois REALTORS® Consulate General Liaison Program as liaison for the Philippines.
As Chair for the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) in 2016, she helped successfully lobby for the U.S. Census Bureau to gather separate information on behalf of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) instead of under the heading of “other.” Today she serves as part of the AREAA Delegate Board.
She also serves on the Chicago Association of REALTORS® Global Council.
