Former Illinois REALTOR® Arlen Speckman died March 14 in Kankakee.
Speckman served as the 1990 Illinois REALTORS® president and the 1998 state REALTOR® of the Year. He was the Illinois REALTORS® 1985 District 5 vice president and was on the REALTORS® Political Action Committee Board of Trustees for three years.
He was a member of the Kankakee Board of REALTORS® and became its president in 1982. In 1983, he became the Kankakee REALTOR® of the Year.
His real estate career began in 1968. He worked for his uncle, Ray Speckman at Speckman Realty. Eventually, he bought the business and helped grow it to five offices. He earned Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) and Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designations.
Speckman was a board member of the Kankakee Area Chamber of Commerce and the local Kiwanis Club.
Read his obituary in the Kankakee Daily Journal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kankakee or to the Kankakee Valley Hospice Organization. There will be a private funeral and a burial service for family members and no visitation. Arrangements will be made by the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.
