Geoffrey J.D. Hewings, Emeritus Director for the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory (REAL) at the University of Illinois, has been honored with the 2020 Founder’s Medal from the Regional Science Association International (RSAI). 

The Founder’s Medal recognizes lifetime contributions to the field of regional science and to RSAI. Hewings is the 10th recipient of the award, established in 1978.  

Hewings and REAL provide Illinois REALTORS® with monthly, quarterly and annual forecasts of the housing market in Illinois. 

RSAI brings together economic, finance, civil engineering, political science, geography and urban/regional planning scholars to provide intellectual leadership in the study of political, economic, behavioral and social phenomena. It is an umbrella organization to three superregional organizations in North America, the Pacific and Europe. The association fosters an exchange of ideas and advocates for study among members.
