The Northern Illinois Commercial Association of REALTORS® (NICAR) showed its community involvement during Illinois’ bicentennial year as a sponsor of the Aurora Homeownership Expo on Nov. 3.
“While NICAR had expected there to be a broader commercial component to the event, the city’s strategy changed during the planning process,” said 2019 NICAR President Bekah Carlson. “NICAR maintained its involvement and helped city leaders meet their new, broader goal of helping an underserved population develop their knowledge base.”
Members of about 120 households took part in the expo, which was designed to educate consumers about how to make good home buying decisions. NICAR sponsored trolley tours that day, which highlighted Aurora’s amenities and upcoming projects.
Presentations, education sessions and exhibitors helped inform attendees about the home buying process, provided opportunities for participants to receive free credit assessments and created an outlet for industry professionals to network and showcase amenities in the downtown Aurora area.
REALTORS across the state are working with heart in their communities to complete projects like this to commemorate the Illinois Bicentennial. The project is one more than 30 legacy projects supported by local REALTOR® associations.
Projects include fundraising for local historic home improvements and community murals or promoting local historical properties and societies. Illinois REALTORS® donated land in downtown Springfield next to its headquarters and built Bicentennial Plaza – a REALTOR® Community Partnership, which is a signature project of the state bicentennial celebrations.
The association is an official endorsed partner with the Illinois Bicentennial Commission, which oversees the state’s plans for the milestone birthday.
