Park Forest leaders need to change the village’s municipal home inspection policy because it jeopardizes some transactions and it’s not fair to potential buyers.
Illinois REALTORS® recently encouraged Park Forest homeowners to become involved in the issue by pointing out drawbacks of the process, which includes conducting inspections and providing the results after buyers have purchased their homes. REALTORS® sent postcards to Park Forest residents, urging them to contact the mayor and village trustees and demand changes to the policy.
If the village would conduct inspections and share the results soon after homes become available for sale, sellers could have more time to address code violations and reduce obstacles for the transactions, says Illinois REALTORS® Government Affairs Director Tom Joseph.
Founded in 1948, Park Forest is approximately 30 miles south of Chicago, in Will and Cook counties. Its population is 21,975.
