Illinois REALTORS® testified against Rent Control during a Wednesday morning subcommittee meeting at the State Capitol while members across the state continued to lobby their state legislators against the concept.
Greg St. Aubin, senior vice president of governmental affairs, voiced REALTOR® concerns about Rent Control during a subject matter hearing for the House Judiciary-Civil Law Committee. He was joined by representatives of three other organizations. Their testimony contrasted testimony collected several weeks ago in favor of Rent Control. A committee vote on at least one piece of Rent Control legislation – likely either House Bill 255 or House Bill 2192 – could happen any time, he said. The deadline for bills to advance is March 29.
Neil Malone, director of grassroots and political programs, says he’s encouraged by the growing number of Illinois REALTORS® who have contacted their state legislators through a statewide Call for Action. Within the last 48 hours, nearly 1,500 REALTORS® joined the effort, boosting the total number of participants past 9,100.
“We’d love to see that number exceed 10,000,” Malone said. “That would mean that 20 percent of our members are participating. That could be a record for a statewide Call for Action.” Join the Call for Action.
