The NorthWest Illinois Alliance of REALTORS® (NWIAR) joined representatives of the Rockford Park District and local residents in late July to celebrate the new name and new playground at Keeling Trailhead Park.

Early in the process, NWIAR applied for – and was eventually awarded – a $5,000 NAR Smart Growth Grant to pay for signs, marketing materials, venue expenses and catering for “listening sessions” as the park district gathered residents’ opinions about the most valuable park amenities and long-term maintenance needs.

“The listening sessions gave residents and REALTORS® a substantial stake in the neighborhood park’s development,” said Neeley Erickson, Illinois REALTORS® Local Governmental Affairs Director.

Residents wanted the park – formerly known as Saturn Park – to be welcoming to citizens of all ages and abilities. They helped design the new playground with their feedback.

“REALTORS® take immense pride in their communities and enjoy playing active roles in their growth,” said Erickson. “Parks foster healthier, more social and economically viable communities.”

Rockford residents gathered at Keeling Trailhead Park in late July and celebrated the building of a new playground there.
