Increasing member involvement and supporting those who become involved are two key goals for REALTOR® Rebecca Thomson, owner of the Thomson Real Estate Group in Chicago. She is one of nine candidates slated to join the 2020 Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors.
“I am here because I care deeply, and I am committed to serving and growing the Illinois REALTORS®,” says Thomson, who is finishing her first term on the board. “I also want to continue to support meaningful involvement with our industry partners.”
Thomson’s firm consults with brokerages and associations designs events, courses and content for brokerages in the real estate industry. She hopes to use her experience in strategic planning and finance to help the association meet the needs of members.
“I am data driven and work to ensure our strategies align with what the data tells us,” Thomson says.
She is slated to again join the board of directors at the Fall Business Meetings, Sept. 17-19 at the Chicago Marriott in Naperville. This is the ninth blog post in the series about slated board members.
History of association involvement
Thomson began her real estate career straight out of college and quickly became involved with the Women’s Council of REALTORS where she served as the Chicago network President in 2013 and currently serves on their National Executive Board. She also dedicates her time to serving her local association, the Chicago Association of REALTORS. From committee service to serving on the board and then serving as their President in 2018, Thomson made her mark in Chicago but hasn’t stopped there. She is also a National Association of REALTORS Director, a 2015 Leadership Academy graduate, serves on the National Executive committee, and chaired the NAR Convention when it was held in Chicago in 2017.
Over just the past six years, Thomson’s served on 15 different committees, working groups and forums for Illinois REALTORS®; including four years on the Finance Committee, twice chairing the YPN Advisory Group and serving on various RPAC and strategic planning groups.
She is a President’s Circle Golden RPAC Major Investor, recently completed a term as an RPAC Trustee and serves as the State Legislative Contact to state Rep. Ann Williams of Chicago.
In her spare time, Thomson is completing her MBA at the University of Chicago with concentrations in management and strategy. She is married to fellow REALTOR, Matt Farrell, Managing Broker of Urban Real Estate – Farrell is the Illinois REALTORS® Federal Political Coordinator for U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin. Thomson and Farrell have a two-year-old son, James and they reside in Chicago’s New East Side.
