In the latest Illinois REALTORS® video, Legislative Attorney Matt Rentschler explains the proactive approach we’ve taken to educate members about the state’s Source of Income law that took effect Jan. 1.

For example, Rentschler said representatives from law enforcement, local housing authorities, municipal leaders and legal aid offices have been part of panel discussions to help REALTOR® members understand how the law will work for property managers and tenants.

The law makes it illegal to make housing selections because of tenants’ lawful sources of income, such as housing choice (Section 8) vouchers or disability payments.
