Illinois REALTORS®’ army of members tasked with helping policymakers understand the need to protect private property rights got ready to go to Capitol Hill on Tuesday.

The Federal Political Coordinators, or FPCs as they are called, met to get updates from NAR and Illinois REALTORS® staff members about issues that they will be discussing with most of the state’s elected officials over the next few days. Meetings are scheduled with just about all of the state’s 18 representatives and two senators.

On the agenda today:

  • Discussions on alerting lawmakers to the need to keep residential and commercial credit affordable and obtainable.
  • Tax treatment of forgiven loan debt.
  • And the 1031 Like-Kind Exchange.

The Hill visits require a lot of walking around. Most meetings take place in the House and Senate office buildings which ring the perimeter of the U.S. Capitol.
