At the NAR Future Commitee Involvement Workshop and Luncheon held during the Illinois REALTORS® Winter Meetings in Bloomington-Normal on Wednesday, Jan. 19, members heard from REALTOR® leaders about the path to REALTOR® involvement at the national level.

National Association of REALTORS® 2022 First Vice President, Tracy Kasper and Chicago REALTOR® Mabél Guzmán joined Illinois REALTORS® 2022 President Ezekiel “Zeke” Morris for a discussion about their respective journeys to positions at the national level and their advice for members who wish to serve on an NAR Committee and become more involved. Members were encouraged to apply to serve on a national committee and perhaps one day rise to serve as a vice chair, chair or national vice president. Following their discussion, Illinois REALTORS® Executive Vice President, Kristen Butcher shared the key steps required to apply for an NAR Committee and some helpful tips to get started.

Kasper has a long history of serving both her local and state associations. She specializes in both residential and commercial real estate, has been a REALTOR® for 29 years and is the broker/owner of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Silverhawk Realty in Boise Valley and a majority owner in two other Idaho real estate companies.

Guzmán is a past president of the Chicago Association of REALTORS®, an Illinois REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award recipient and has served on numerous local and state committees. She recently testified on behalf of Illinois REALTORS® before the Illinois House of Representatives Housing Committee. In 2020, Guzmán was the NAR Vice President of Association Affairs and is currently the Chair of the NAR Insurance Committee.

Kasper and Guzmán described their path to national involvement and shared how members could position themselves for a vice chair/chair position or any leadership position with NAR.
