Q. What should I do if I didn’t complete my education requirements in time to meet the April 30, 2022 deadline?

A. Contact IDFPR at [email protected]. or 1-800-560-6420 to learn your options. Do not submit a license renewal application until your education requirements are complete. If you submit a renewal application before completing the required education, you could face fines and possible discipline of your license.

Q. What is the penalty for renewing late?

A. Late renewal includes a $50 late charge, increasing the license renewal fee from $150 to $200. Any renewals submitted after midnight on April 30, 2022 are considered late renewals.

Q. If I haven’t renewed my license yet, may I continue to practice real estate?

A. No, you cannot practice real estate after April 30, 2022 until your license is renewed. Contact IDFPR at [email protected]. or 1-800-560-6420 to learn your options.

Q. I was required to take Post License courses for my first renewal and took CE instead. What should I do?

A. If you have already submitted your license renewal application, notify IDFPR as soon as possible and begin taking the required post-license coursework. It is likely that the Department will catch this in the audit and you may face additional penalties. Notifying the Department may help you avoid additional penalties. Unfortunately, the CE you completed will not count for your next renewal cycle.

Q. How do I know if my renewal was processed?

A. You will receive an email notification from IDFPR ([email protected]). You may also check IDFPR’s online License Lookup daily for updates. If IDFPR does not have a current email address for you, please notify them immediately by contacting IDFPR at [email protected] or 1-800-560-6420. License renewal application processing typically takes 1-2 days, however during the high-volume periods it may take 3-5 days for your license renewal application to be processed. If you renewed on or near the deadline, expect delays. You may check IDFPR’s online License Lookup daily for updates.

Q. If I have completed my education, paid the fee and submitted the renewal form by April 30th but have not received the email to print my license, may I practice real estate now?

A. Yes. Be sure you keep records of your completed education, online renewal confirmation and payment for proof purposes in the case of an audit.

Q. How can I show proof that I submitted my license renewal application if it has not been updated in IDFPR’s License Lookup?

A. You can show records of your completed education, online renewal confirmation and payment for proof you submitted your license renewal application. It is good practice to keep a copy of these records in case of an audit. Review and print records of education you have completed using IDFPR’s CE Lookup or Illinois REALTORS®’ Education Lookup (for courses taken with Illinois REALTORS®).

Q. Where can I print a copy of my renewed license?

A. You can use IDFPR’s Print My License to print a copy of your license. You may also store an electronic copy on your smartphone or tablet instead of carrying a paper license pocket card.

Q. When can I start taking CE for the next license renewal cycle?

A. You must wait until after 2022 license renewal deadline has passed. Courses taken on or after May 1, 2022 will count toward your next renewal cycle requirement.
