Angelique Walker, manager, Heartland Animal Shelter, with her car full of donations from NSBAR.

North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS® (NSBAR) collected 518 pounds of dog and cat food, as well as more than $2,300 of pet toys, blankets and other items during a holiday food drive for two area animal shelters.

All donations were given to the Heartland Animal Shelter and Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions, two local no-kill animal shelters that house and feed dogs and cats awaiting their forever homes.

  • Heartland Animal Shelter houses more than 120 homeless cats, dogs, puppies and kittens at its Northbrook facility. The shelter educates the public on the importance of spaying and neutering pets to prevent pet overpopulation problems.
  • Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions in Palatine was started in 2005 because homeless older cats and dogs, who once were longtime companions to families or individuals, were usually passed over in favor of younger animals and euthanized. These pets became homeless because their owners died or could no longer afford to keep them.

The top two offices with donations were: Keller Williams in Barrington and Coldwell Banker in Barrington.

Special thanks to the following offices for their participation: Baird & Warner in Barrington, Baird & Warner in Glenview, Baird & Warner in Highland Park, Berkshire Hathaway in Lake Forest, Berkshire Hathaway in Northbrook, Coldwell Banker in Glencoe, Coldwell Banker in Winnetka, Coldwell Banker in Northbrook, Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty in Evanston, RE/MAX Advisors, RE/MAX Villager and Synergy Realty and Property Management.

NSBAR members helped more than 150 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens during this holiday season!

NSBAR donations for Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions filled this vehicle.

Officers are: President Carrie Healy (Jean Wright Real Estate in Winnetka), President-Elect Ian Robinson (Baird & Warner in Glenview) and Secretary/Treasurer Joel Raynes (Coldwell Banker Residential in Wilmette). The Association Executive is Steve Volkodav.
